When my brother decided to pop the question earlier in the year I was made up that he decided to ask me to be his best man, because it meant I could organise his stag party and finally get him back for all those years of torture!
I get on with his mates really well so when it came to sorting out the stag do I had a good idea of what everybody would enjoy. We're all fairly competitive and a couple of the lads fancy themselves as the next Lewis Hamilton, so a karting experience was the obvious choice. Nearly all of us had been on karting experiences before, so I wanted to make sure we were doing something a little bit different for his big day. After speaking to one of the guys at Karting Nation they suggested a team endurance event, which meant we would be racing in teams rather than on our own – which sounded perfect.
After meeting the rest of the lads at the circuit we signed in and got changed into our race-suits ready for racing. Once we'd all got changed we sat down for a short safety briefing and run through of how the race worked. To win we basically had to complete as many laps as possible before our time ran out, but with driver changeovers and pit stops thrown in it wasn't quite as easy as tearing round the track as quickly as possible.
Once we'd split up into our teams it was straight down to action and this definitely wasn't your standard karting experience! Before we started I was expecting something like Le Mans, but once we got out on the track it was absolute mayhem!
Pit stops definitely aren't as easy as the F1 guys make them look, and it doesn't matter how fast you are if you mess up the changeovers. By the time our track time ran out there were just a couple of laps in it, and even though I wasn't on the winning team it was one of the best karting experiences I've ever been on. My brother took some serious stick all afternoon too and even he enjoyed it. So once we've nailed those pit stops we'll definitely be back!
