When my best friend asked me to be her chief bridesmaid I was convinced that organising her hen party would be one of the most stressful things I’ve ever done. Thankfully I only had to keep a group of eight of her closest friends happy and we all knew each other fairly well, which meant there was no dramas.
We had a cocktail class booked for the evening, so I wanted to organise an activity that would get the girls excited for a big night out. After looking into a couple of different activities I decided a karting experience would be perfect because it gave us plenty of time to get ready, and meant we could have some fun before hitting the town. I'd been go karting before when I was a kid, but for most of the girls this was their first karting experience and they were all really excited.
When we arrived at the site on the day we were all raring to go, but before we were let loose in our karts we had to change into the race-suits provided. We also had to sit through a short safety briefing, which covered all the basics for those of us that were new to karting experiences. But once we'd run through the race rules and learnt how to get the best out of the karts it was straight down to action.
Our 30 minute karting experience started with a couple of warm up laps to get used to the circuit, but once they were over it was a flat out race to the finish line. The package I'd booked included trophies and a bottle of bubbly for the winner, and if that doesn't bring out your competitive streak nothing will.
After tearing round the track for around half an hour our karting experience came to an end, and even though I didn't quite manage to take top spot on the podium, I was made up about pipping the bride-to-be to third place – even if it meant nearly wiping us both out on the final lap! The rest of the girls really enjoyed our karting experience too, despite being soaked with the winner's Champagne at the end of the race. We'll definitely be back!
