Tasha tries out Off Road Karting in Durham

After a crazy month here at Karting Nation HQ, the bumper bank holiday weekend gave some of our hard working karting experts the perfect opportunity to escape the office and recharge their batteries. Forget a trip to the spa or spot of retail therapy though, any down time for our dedicated team of petrol heads is nearly always spent behind the wheel of a kart. So when we got the chance to sample some off-road karting on Easter Sunday, we ditched the Easter eggs and headed straight for the action at our awesome Witton Gilbert venue.

We caught up with Tasha for the inside track on a heart-racing day of action at Off-Road Karting Witton Gilbert..

“Despite the early start we arrived at Witton Gilbert slightly ahead of schedule, so we had no choice but to start the day with a bacon butty from the on-site café, and believe me it didn’t disapoint! Once we’d wolfed down some breakfast it was straight down to action, and after a full safety briefing we suited up, headed down to the karting field and away we went.

Before we got in the off-road karts I was incredibly nervous, but the guys at Witton Gilbert were dead helpful and answered all of our questions, which really reassured me. I’ve been go karting before and I’ve been in a drift car before, but nothing quite compares to off-road karting.

Because it had been raining the track was really muddy and slippery, but our instructor assured us that a bit of rain only made off-road karting more exciting, and he definitely wasn’t wrong. Being a passenger was absolutely terrifying, but being a driver was honestly the most fun I’ve ever had – it was amazing! Despite fearing for my life it was really good to experience off-road karting as both a passenger and a driver, just make sure you choose your partner very carefully though!

There’s very little I can compare off-road karting to, sliding round the track in a 690cc Rage Buggy is enough to make grown men scream – and I loved every second of our experience. The fact I couldn’t quite see over the steering wheel meant I drove over the odd tyre or two, but not even that could slow me down!

When I first got into the kart I was really nervy about it, but I instantly forgot about any fears and was amazed by how much fun I had. Off-road karting wasn’t at all what I expected and you definitely don’t need to be a petrol head to give it a go. Would I do it again? For Sure!”

If Tasha’s day at the wheel has inspired you to try off-road karting, the team took on a 1 hour experience at Off-Road Karting Witton Gilbert – who we’d just like to say a huge thank you to for an awesome day!
