Racing Ahead of the Pack: Women in Motorsport

If you’ve got an adrenaline seeking mum who loves nothing more than to put the pedal to the metal, then look no further than a thrilling karting experience you can treat her to this Mother’s Day.

Give her a break from the morning school run as she gets behind the wheel of a high powered kart, in which she’ll have the freedom to obtain her need for speed – with the aim of earning her place on the winner’s podium!

Still not enough to convince you that a karting experience is the perfect gift for Mother’s Day? Then just look at some of these women who’ve all proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with on the racing track.

Sabine Schmitz

Known as ‘The Queen of The Ring’, German professional motor racing driver and TV personality Sabine Schmitz has achieved the ultimate feat of a 24 Hours win not once, but twice, at Nurburgring – one of the most notorious racing tracks in existence. If you think that your mum has what it takes to prove herself on the racing track, then following the example of Sabine won’t be such a bad thing!

Hellé Nice

Writing her name in the history books as a pioneer of female motor racing, Hellé Nice set the incredible land speed record for women driving way back in 1929 whilst in command of an Omega-Six. Further down the line, she was able to participate in five major Grand Prix tournaments in 1931 – all behind the wheel of a Bugatti Type-35C. A near-fatal accident and the war may have cut short her racing career, but that certainly didn’t erase her lasting legacy.

Courtney Force

Force by name, force by nature, Courtney Force won her first race at the Top Alcohol Dragster category at the young age of 21 back in 2009 – quite the achievement we must say! Just a few years later, she stormed to her first ever Funny Car (not quite as hilarious as the name suggests!) race – becoming the 3rd woman to do so and thus cementing her place amongst the Funny Car pros.

Jutta Kleinschmidt

Back in 2001, which seems like a lifetime ago now, Jutta Kleinschmidt was able to emerge victorious in an infamous annual rally raid which is widely regarded as the most difficult race in the world – The Dakar. Jutta was able to reach her peak from behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution – one of the most successful rally cars the Dakar race has ever known, having been the competition car to claim 12 successes between 1985 and 2007. Just a year on from her ultimate achievement, Jutta finished in 2nd place at the Dakar – once again proving she was still amongst the elite.

Here at Karting Nation, we have over 90 heart-racing venues available to choose from. On that basis, there’s sure to be a karting venue near you! Give your mum an exhilarating Mother’s Day to remember, whilst presenting her with one of our Karting Vouchers – a gift which is way better than your average bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates!

She’ll be given the chance to unleash her inner Formula 1 star from behind the wheel of a specially designed kart. After being given expert tuition and a full safety briefing, she’ll soon find herself experiencing an ultimate burst of adrenaline – zooming around a purpose built track as she tasks herself with obtaining her winner’s medal!
