In celebration of International Women’s Day, we’re proud to announce our favourite, most inspirational female athlete that we’ve noticed over the past year. So, without further ado, it’s time to award British motor racing driver Jamie Chadwick with the title.
Jamie began driving go-karts at the age of 13, following the interest of her brother. In 2013, she decided to turn down a England hockey trial in favour of competing at the Ginetta Junior scholarship weekend. This turned out to be a good decision, as she won the scholarship and was invited to compete in the 2013 Ginetta Junior Championship season where she won five races throughout the season, finishing eighth in the overall season standings.
At only 17 years of age, Jamie became the first – and youngest – female driver to win the British GT championship alongside fellow driver Ross Gunn in the Beechdean Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage. Making headlines, breaking records and gaining popularity, Jamie switched to single seat F3 cars at the start of the 2017 season, signing with Double R Racing which is co-founded by Kimi Raikkonen. Currently aged 19, Jamie will join Douglas Motorsport for the 2018 F3 championship as she continues to build on her recognised success and her quest for the overall title.
The amount Jamie has achieved, in the short time span she has achieved it in, is incredible to say the least. It’s even more staggering if you consider the fact that she didn’t come from a family with a motor sport background! We wish Jamie the best of luck for the upcoming season on the track and we will be looking out for her on the F1 podium in a couple of years time!
