Whether you’ve opted for an indoor or outdoor karting session you’re in for an awesome day, but there are some slight differences and each has its own set of pros and cons. So if you’re struggling to decide which one is best for you here’s a look at some of the best bits about both.
The most obvious difference between the two is that outdoor tracks are exposed to the elements while indoor tracks aren’t. The British weather is famous for its unpredictability which means track conditions on an outdoor circuit can change in a flash. Driving in wet conditions can be tricky, but as long as it is safe to do so most sessions will carry on as scheduled. Once the adrenalin kicks in the last thing on your mind will be a bit of rain! When the rain does hold off, there’s no better place to be than out on the track with the wind in your face putting your skills to the test.
If you don’t want to gamble on changing track conditions and indoor sessions is the perfect alternative and it combines all the fun of an outdoor session, with the added bonus of being sheltered from the elements. Some indoor tracks even incorporate outdoor sections into their circuit to give racers a taste of both forms of racing. If you’re trying karting for the first time an indoor circuit is the perfect place to pick up the basics without having to worry about changing track conditions. Likewise if you’re an experienced karter looking for some much needed track time there’s no better place to hone your skills than at an indoor circuit.
For serious karters outdoor circuits make the perfect playground as tracks tend to be longer and wider, perfect for overtaking and building up some serious speed. Unlike indoor tracks, outdoor circuits aren’t restricted by space which means your skills are put the test around sweeping corners and high speed straights. What indoor tracks may lack in speed they more than make up for in fun. Bridges, tunnels and outdoor sections are all used to keep drivers on their toes and break up the boredom of racing round the same old track.
So if you’re still not sure which one you’d prefer you’ve got the perfect excuse to hit the track and find out which one you love the most.
