For a lot of parents, planning a birthday party for the kids is incredibly easy. But when you’re parents to twins, one boy and one girl, who are just turning 12 years old, it is really hard to choose something that they can both enjoy and that their friends will also want to take part in. When they were younger, it was easier to arrange joint parties for them. Now that they’ve entered high school, you wouldn’t even know they were related, they have such different tastes!
When I asked them if they wanted separate parties, they said no- it was a family tradition for them to share a party with all their friends and family, so they wanted a big joint party as they do every single year. I know in the next few years that tradition is probably going to end, so I might as well enjoy it while I can! The only problem from there is trying to choose something that both 12 year old boys and 12 year old girls will love. They couldn’t be any more different if they tried.
Whilst looking online for activities they could take part in, I clicked onto the Karting Nation website. There was a large indoor track just a short drive from our house and we’ve always talked about going there for a day out, we’ve just never had the time to go. This would be the perfect birthday treat- it would be a great family memory, as well as a thrilling day out for the kids and all their mates!
After calling up all the other mums and making sure all the kids were free for the party, I went straight to Karting Nation’s website to see if the track was free on their birthday. The site was simple to navigate, but I wanted to make sure I was getting the correct package deal. I made a “karting enquiry” and called up a member of the team, who was happy to help and got us all booked in just minutes later. The package I got was strictly for the kids- but they definitely didn’t want me to embarrass them on their big day! Plus, I had a feeling we’d be returning again soon.
We had managed to book the site exclusively for the party, so all the kids just took it in turns racing each other. The final lap was a face-off between both the twins and all their friends were cheering them on from the spectator areas. It was more exciting than any F1 match I’ve ever seen! Once they got off the track, the team allowed us to continue the birthday celebrations to tuck into some birthday cake. They may have acted embarrassed that I was still treating them to cake when they’re 12, but they certainly weren’t complaining!
After a fantastic birthday party like this, none of us could wait to return again. I made the right call booking with Karting Nation; I recommend them to everybody, for a birthday party and just for an all round great time at the races.
